The housing fee is a fee paid by residents to Dubai Municipality. For renters it is equivalent to 5% of the annual rent and is divided into 12 monthly instalments which are added to your DEWA bill. The housing fee is not subject to VAT.
As Ejari is integrated with DEWA, the housing fee automatically adjusts when your rental agreement is renewed and a new rent is agreed. If your housing fee appears incorrect you can request a review from Dubai Municipality.
Homeowners who are expats and own and occupy their home pay the housing fee. The fee is however calculated according to the assessed rent of the home and is not based on the rent agreed through Ejari. UAE citizens are not required to pay the housing fee. The best way to view the housing fee paid is on your monthly DEWA statement.
